Why a Catholic education at MBS? Here's the top 10 list!

#10 Have an Inviting and Safe Place to Learn
Educators create a safe, loving environment that encourages students to believe in their capabilities and work toward their potential. The Dolphin Club, a positive behavior reinforcement program, helps create productive class time through self discipline and is utilized in conjunction with a progressive discipline policy. Built in 2003, MBS is a state of the art facility with large rooms, bright windows, extensive library, computer lab, science lab, health suite, small group breakout rooms, and more. Entry to school is by speaker/video system with video surveillance outdoors and background checks required for all faculty and volunteers working with children.

#9 Become A Star
Choir, band and a spring musical offer children in grades three and above the opportunity to explore their performing talents. Students in PreK to second grade participate in music class and school programs throughout the year. Visual arts is offered to all students and artwork is showcased at the school and online (www.artsonia.com). Our school offers a variety of extra-curricular middle school sports, including soccer, golf, basketball, and girls' softball.

#8 Live Healthy!
Promoting healthy living through nutrition and physical education is carried out with a nutritious hot lunch program and participation in the federal milk program. Physical fitness is encouraged through outdoor play on the playground, fitness equipment stations and volleyball court.

#7 Gain Lifelong Friendships
Students have the opportunity to study and play together, understand and celebrate differences. A buddy system matches a young student with an older student to promote diversity, responsibility, and belonging. Team projects over multiple grades develop a school community spirit.

#6 Explore New Things
Technology, music, Spanish, art and physical education are regular classes to enrich the child's experiences and prepare the individual for an ever-changing world in which thinking is not only a habit, but a way of life. A commitment to technology education gives K-8 students regular technology classes in a lab with computers for each student. Field trips extend learning outside the classroom with local class trips and school-wide visits to explore all that the Mid-Atlantic has to offer.

#5 Focus on Family
Parents are recognized as the primary educators of their children and they collaborate with teachers and administrators as partners in education. MBS is sensitive to the needs of working families and provides before and after school care, full-day kindergarten, and half-day preschool. The Home and School Association bases activities on social interaction to build a strong school family relationship.

#4 Experience Leadership
Students learn to think globally and have the opportunity to do service locally. Interaction with parish activities is encouraged. Students participate in community service projects and support MBS's sister school, Holy Trinity Catholic School in Mississippi.

#3 Build Academic Excellence
Teachers and staff model respect for all and an acceptance of each child's talents, abilities, and personal challenges. A variety of learning strategies are used to connect with the child's framework of understanding. A strong core curriculum supportive of education standards for both Delaware and Maryland is complemented with enrichment programs. A low Student to Teacher ratio allows for more individual attention.

#2 Grow through Faith-Based Education
Catholic school teachers have the unique opportunity to mold every aspect of a child's growth and development. Foremost in this development is the spiritual - educators teach the message of Jesus. Through prayer, religious instruction, liturgies, and daily interaction, students become rooted in faith.
